FIRST.
Well, I'm finally getting ready to leave for Americorps in Denver. All of my boxes are shipped, most of my clothes are packed, I've got all of the necessary forms, and I've received my flight information. It all seems so real now. It's kinda scary.
I'm going to be in the FIRE Unit (I will not be a firefighter, this is just for "organizational purposes"). I think my temporary group is group 2. I'll get a new group number just before I head out on my first project.
For everyone who doesn't exactly know what I'm talking about, let me explain:
I am moving to Denver, Colorado for 10 months to participate in Americorps. Americorps is basically a domestic Peace Corps. I will be doing 4 different projects all around the South-West over 10 months. It will total to around 1700 hours of community service. You can check out the website and the info on my division (NCCC) here: Americorps NCCC
I wanted to take a year between high school and college, and I was really interested in Americorps. I will still be attending Georgia State come Fall 2011. I will be home for the Winter holidays, but that will most likely be the only time until the end of July, 2011.
I'll be updating this blog with my experiences periodically. So don't forget to check back!
